Day 129/366 - The Rhythm of Life

Day 129/366 - The Rhythm of Life

Thanks to some colleagues and friends at work, my wife and I have decided to put our angel on a sleep schedule. Thanks Matt M., Jean S., and Brian G.

She actually has a bedtime now, and we're on our way to getting her to sleep for longer, more restful intervals. It's going to change our lives and hers.

This is our first child... it simply did not occur to me that she can and should be on a sleep schedule by now. I thought that all babies just sleep when they want to, and parents need to adjust. This is true for the first month or so, but don't fall into this trap if you're a first time parent. May I suggest "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child", by Marc Weissbluth, MD. Thanks again Jean for recommending this book!

Technical stuff: This was a long exposure in very low light on a tripod. She was stirring about a little, creating this brushed look. It's one of the most "artsy" shots I've taken in a while... I like it.

Her new schedule will mean that I have to get the daily 365 in as soon as I get home from work (hey, that's a Babyface song), or first thing in the morning... I'm up to it! Anything for our little angel:)

You’ve Got To Go To Sleep Alone

You’ve Got To Go To Sleep Alone

I had a great weekend with a couple of scheduled photo-shoots. First up was a maternity shoot, however I don’t have permission to post any of those just yet. Afterwards we visited family who had just given birth to their 3rd child - Lukas. We’d planned an afternoon of newborn shooting in a studio-like environment, but arrived late when the light was fading. Not wanting to blind a 6-day old child with a speedlight I took a few snaps with the last of the natural light streaming through the window and rescheduled for another day. Post-production was a slight contrast and vibrancy boost and a reduction in clarity to soften the scene and assist the dreaminess.
